In the trucking industry, you’ll hear the term OTR. That just means over-the-road truck driving, and it’s sometimes referred to as long haul trucking. OTR truck drivers are usually on the road from a week to three weeks at a time. For most drivers new to the trucking industry, an OTR position is the easiest way to begin a career as a professional truck driver. You’ll see the country and learn the way of life on the road during your first year – and you’ll be getting paid well to do it!

As an OTR driver, you’ll be learning the ropes and seeing new places almost every day. For professional truck drivers, the first year in the trucking industry is the most important. It’s when you get your experience and get prepared for future opportunities. Once you have a year of OTR driving experience, you’ll be able to consider other routes and types of truck driving jobs, such as a dedicated route driver, a driver trainer, or LTL truck driving opportunities. This is what you can expect during your first year in the trucking industry. You’ll be a well paid, over-the-road professional truck driver. And after 12 months of experience, you’ll have opportunities to make even more money and choose the type of job that best suits you.
