CDL License Test
The CDL license test varies by state, but it is not simple anywhere you take it. Schooling and training is required to do well on the CDL test and to go on to qualify for jobs in the transport industry. No matter if you plan on transporting people or several tons of cargo, the CDL test is mandatory to operate anything classified as a CMV (Commercial Motor Vehicle).
Regardless of state, the CDL license test is broken up into the general knowledge test and then several other tests for specific endorsements. These include double and triple trailers, hazardous materials, passenger transport, tankers, air brakes, inspection, and combination vehicles. But before you can test for these endorsements, you have to pass the general knowledge test.
CDL License Test for General Knowledge
The basic test is made up of questions that cover truck knowledge, safety knowledge, and road knowledge. Some of the areas covered include vehicle inspection, basic control of your vehicle, gear shifting, communication, distracted driving, night driving, fog driving, visual hazards, space management, speed control, winter driving, mountain driving, antilock and air brake systems, skid control, road and highway crossings, and fire safety. You will also cover what to do in case of emergency or accident, as well as how to perform minor repairs on site.
