What if I already have a Class A permit? Will I be able to use it for training?

It depends. Unfortunately, permits are non-transferable from state to state. If you hold a permit issued by the state in which you will attend school, you would not be required to retake the written exams. However, if your permit is from a state other than the state you will be training in, you will be required to take and obtain the permit in the state you will be training in.

Endorsements are additional tests a driver must pass in order to operate special types of commercial vehicles. Some endorsements require passing only a written test, while others endorsements require both a written and skills test to pass. A few examples are hazmat, doubles, triples and tanker endorsements.

There are 3 classes of CDL's depending on the gross weight and configuration of the vehicle.
