In October of 1971, Gary Sasser, at the age of 21, purchased Averitt, which at the time consisted of two associates, three tractors, and five trailers. Today, Averitt is still privately owned and operates a fleet of over 3,000 tractors, 9,000 trailers and over 100 service centers. Averitt's company headquarters are located in Cookeville, TN which is about an hour east of Nashville. Drivers joining the Averitt family will begin their careers in truckload.
